Watch Out For the Leafy Leviathans! Last year, there were about 20 giant cabbages entered in the Tanana Valley State Fair. We suspect that these were advance scouts for this year’s giant cabbage invasion. Across the Interior, gardeners are watching their crops in fear that they too might spawn one of the leafy leviathons that have already been spotted hovering about Interior Alaska. If you are a gardener, be sure to bring YOUR giant cabbage to the Fair this year so we can watch it for signs of carnivorousness. We are well protected with vegetable graters, which seem to cause the killer cabbages great fear, and are sure we can put down any attempt by these cabbages to take over the Fair.
Keep Your Vegetable Graters Close At Hand! This year, killer cabbages will descend on Interior Alaska and gather at the 1997 Tanana Valley State Fair. Joining them will be artisans, gardeners, and vendors of all sorts. Fairgoers willing to brave the threat of carnivorous coliforms will have the chance to meet with a variety of aliens, starting with a visit from the Star Trek Landing Party. If you’re lucky, you might even run into a killer cabbage, so follow Fair Hare’s example and keep your vegetable grater close at hand!

Volunteering To Help Stop The Killer Cabbage Invasion The Tanana Valley State Fair has thousands of opportunities for volunteers of all ages. Brave individuals with no fear of cabbage-kind are invited to come and help put on the Interior’s largest event. In 1997 we will need volunteers for each day of the Fair, which runs from August 1 through August 9. There are many different volunteer activities available, so there should be something to please almost anyone. To receive more information on volunteering, call us at (907) 452-3750 or send us e-mail at tvsf@polarnet.com. Contests From Killer Coleslaw to Crocheted Crafts Each year there are more than 1800 people who bring over 9000 exhibits which are entered in the Fair’s thirty-four competitive exhibit divisions. In addition to these competitions, which span areas from gardening, to speechmaking, to photography, the Fair holds special contests every year. In the past, these competitions have involved things like motorcross racing, stupid pet tricks, scavenger hunts, and a variety of athletic competitions. This year, the Fair will be conducting contests like these, as well as a dress like your favorite alien competition and other science-fiction and gardening-related activities.
