Velcro tree
Wednesday, September 28th, 2005Rick and Heidi gave Beren a helicopter for his birthday, and while we were flying it Monday the inevitable happened– it landed 30 feet up in a spruce tree in the middle of our lawn.
I demonstrated my dad skills by gently shooting blunt tipped arrows at it until I got all three of them cradled nicely in the branches. Then it was time to get drastic. The rake! I grabbed our longest rake but it was way too short. I began throwing the rake, hoping to rotate it just right and knock the helicopter and all three arrows down.
It only took three tries before the rake was caught 20 feet up in the tree along with the rest.
Time to cut our losses and wait for the wind to blow them down. We had our first snow tonight though– if it starts sticking I’ll probably have to clamber up there with the extension ladder.
