Changed furnace filters

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Stayed home all day. Dad V was a champ and helped me change the filters finally, past my “one month” guideline but he said, “until they start hampering the air flow to the furnace, the dirtier they are the more they catch” so I didn’t feel so bad.

We also had a good red Thai curry dinner and the second good music session in a week, these winter days are good for something.

Raven article discussion

I noticed rather later that my friend Erin posted some interesting thoughts about my Epiphany/Raven article on her blog.

Check Erin’s response out here.

Fairbanks weather
In other news, it’s -51° this morning.

These winter days fly by slowly

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

Yesterday Lily said, “it’s twelvyseven blow outside. It’s weawwy blowey out.” Our mild winter finally got a bit serious with -30° F weather, though that doesn’t even approach the -60° we get sometimes. Last night driving home after 5 I noticed some light lingering on the horizon though, I know these days are lengthening.

Beren has a cold, this morning he woke up and laid on Cirdan’s sheepskin in front of the fire for a long time. Grandpa noted last night that Beren’s word “whobody” hasn’t been heard around here for a while.

Cirdan is gaining weight fast, his legs are no longer scrawny newborn legs but nice and plump, rapidly approaching the conical shape Lily’s legs had at one point. Lily on the other hand is stretching out into a long and lithe little girl, Beren aquiring mass like a small man.

Lily started gymnastics lessons last week and loved it, Betsy said she was the star pupil and everything was like, “Lily, grab these bars and swing your legs just like you always do. Now jump off this thing just like we tell you not to at home.”

Changed belts on 4 Runner

Tuesday, January 17th, 2006

OK, so probably nobody wants to read about this sort of thing but I should write it down somewhere so I’m going to try to do it here. Feel free to skip over the “Maintenance” category on the blog :)

Got all three belts replaced on the 4 Runner on Saturday. They were sqeaking and old. Beren helped and told Grandpa all about it later, “He had to use a cry bar to cry on those things a little bit.”

photo: our first moments together as a family of five

We’ve got a bunch of new pictures up in our photo gallery. Based on the comments, I wonder if everyone knew there was a whole batch of new baby ones? Anyway, enjoy them!
