On Saturday, with Beren’s help. Maybe the 4Runner tonight.

Also, I hid the ‘Maintenance’ category from my front page (yay) with this snip of php:
if ( in_category('9') ) {continue;}

WordPress = good (so far)

WARNING: the Meta category is for stuff about this blog and blogging, it could be as boring as Maintenance for many of you :)

Looks like WordPress 2.0.1 was released yesterday. I’ve got my personal work blog set up from the WordPress Subversion repository so I upgraded in like 2 seconds just now. Probably should do that here too. Subversion is DEFINITELY the way to go with that business. (I’ve been using Subversion for my code at work too and it totally rocks.)

My friend Erin got me started with this business when I offered to help her set up blog software so she could start Comma Dot Comma . We’ve been trying out the trackback feature lately; it seems like you have to be careful not to trackback twice? And Erin, if you’re reading this, would you like me to upgrade your site to the latest WordPress code?

Anyway, WordPress has been a delight to work with, I even got a lightning-fast response from one of the core developers when I reported a security issue (which he said was a known issue and should be fixed now). I enjoy the easy installation/upgrades, the clean design, and the pretty good user interface. The theme support seems cool too though I haven’t taken the time to go beyond the default yet.

Another friend, David, has been complaining about the comment spam he gets on his blog which is running Moveable Type. He requires user registration for comments now, and it was too broken for me to be able to post a comment (thus this attempt at a trackback). David: if you want to switch to WordPress which has antispam features built in (which may or may not be adequate to solve your headaches), let me know and I can help you install it on your host… and I’m sure you can find lots of comparitive reviews of different blog packages out there.

In other news, I’ve been playing a bit with Google Reader today as a way of aggregating and reading my favorite blogs. I don’t know if I like seeing everyone’s posts outside their own unique designs though.

Lastly, my friend Mike has been continuing to write good stuff in This Land, posting a gripping cliffhanger article the other day entitled “Jesus’ Dorky Wife”. Erin and David, I’d like to see you submit to This Land someday, it seems up your respective alleys. Too bad the RSS feed doesn’t seem to work with Google Reader yet…
