Alternative hymns

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Just overheard:

I hope you will marry the Christmas, Hallelujah, Christ is born!

Other recent snatches have included the favorite,

Up from the grave HE’S A ROSE!
With a mighty triumph o’er his FOES,
He arose a victor from the DARK DUMB CAVE,
He a rose! He A ROSE! Hallelujah, Christ the Rose.

and the blasphemous,

Silk* answers prayer,
Silk answers prayer,
Silk answers prayer, he’s so good to me.

* “silk” is more precious than rubies in Lily’s eyes. It’s also a verb, meaning to rub silky fabric between the fingers: “I want to silk this blanket. I want to silk this tag.”

I forgive YOU!

My favorite repeated sibling argument recently*:

Lily, after a Time Out is concluded: “I’m sorry Bewwen… I forgive you.”

Beren: “No, I forgive you.”

Lily: “No, I forgive you!!”
Beren: “No, I forgive you!!!”

(usually ends with a parent forcibly separating them before they’ve hurt each other).

*OK so they’ve already mostly grown out of this one. I’m way behind in the blogging but am going to try to write things more often without trying to get them perfect

Betsy skiing with Cirdan

Over the weekend Betsy, Cirdan, Heidi, Rick and I skied out to Lee’s cabin in the White Mountains. It was a lot of fun and three month old Cirdan was simply delightful. He didn’t even mind snowflakes falling on his little bottom when Betsy changed his diaper en route!

Here are a few pictures from the trip. We’re looking forward to going again in a couple weeks with a larger group and all three of our kids!
