Beren’s Yukon Mouse Tale
Dictated to his mother on March 6, 2008
Once upon a time there were five tan colored mice living on a houseboat on the Yukon River. They anchored it sometimes and went fishing. Sometimes they would put shrimp pots in the ocean. The mice’s names were: Lily, Beren, Cirdan, Nathan and Betsy. And they liked to help. Lily, Beren and Cirdan liked to help Nathan and Betsy with their houseboat work. I have to say that they loved fishing!
One day they were fishing and a mailboat roared up the river. And it stopped next to their boat. They anchored both boats and put a conveyor belt across the boats — a long one! Then, there was a package, and more packages, and finally there was a letter, that said it was from their friends! They said to the mailperson to wait. Then they went into their houseboat and opened the letter. The letter said,
Dear Friends,
We have heard that there is a problem out in the middle of the sea and we need you to go down there to help us fix the accident. You should come to the Canary Islands and start right now.
And so the family wrote a letter that said,
Dear Friends,
We have got your letter and we will come as fast as we can.
So, they put it in an envelope and gave it to the people on the mailboat.
Then, they got into their little houseboat and put up the cover and got all their fish inside and roared down the river to the Canary Islands. Then they saw a big, huge flash, and the whole island lit up with fire. They talked to everybody and got lots of foam that you put in a fire extinguisher. They added lots of water and compressed air into the bottom of the bottle. And then, they had a whipped cream bottle nozzle and they sprayed it at the fire and put it out.
And then, they began to roar back up the sea to the Yukon River. But while they were in the sea a big whale spouted up water and made their houseboat go up in the air and it flew back to the Yukon River.

I especially like the innovative super-sized fire extinguisher.
